In the face of life’s difficulties, building and maintaining a healthy long-term relationship can be challenging for many couples. Overcoming these obstacles requires ongoing adjustments, self-reflection, and commitment. For many couples the idea of seeking couples counselling can be daunting.  Finding the right counsellor who you both feel comfortable, heard and validated is key to success in the counselling process.

Dr. Michael Dadson notes:

It is known divorce can often be one of the most financially and emotionally costly events in our lives. At Gentle Currents Therapy, we firmly believe that counselling can effect changes that yield lasting results and results that truly matter. Couples counselling can provide personal growth, and have a positive impact to a couple’s relationship to make it worthwhile for lasting change.

Dr. Dadson also often finds the shared love for each other that brought them together as a couple can re-emerge.

The Gottman’s are internationally recognised researchers on couples relationships, identifying “The Four Horsemen” as significant indicators of a troubled relationship: Criticism, Contempt, Defensiveness, and Stonewalling. Once these negative elements infiltrate a relationship, they pose a serious risk to its very foundation.

Dr. Dadson consistently identifies:

There is a notable “gap” in couples communication skills or approaches, hindering the expression of important thoughts and feelings as a result of previous breakdowns or the existing communication “gap.” By guiding effective communication, Dr. Mike Dadson supports and facilitates a mutual collaborative decision making  process between partners and supports couples in taking positive steps to resolve real and perceived conflicts.

If you find yourself struggling in your role as a partner, or parent, at Gentle Currents Therapy we can provide the right guidance and support to enhance your overall well-being and foster healthier connections within your family and your exterior relationships.
